Brian and Ann treat their guests as they would like to be treated
Ann and Brian Turner have always held the view that guests who choose to come to their family deserve to be treated as generously and as courteously as would members of their own family. There is, therefore, at the White House Hotel a refreshing absence of formality. That this has been achieved without any sacrifice of efficiency is due entirely to their personalities. Brian is a man who can turn his hand to any job that needs doing. Guests who stay at the White House can rest assured that any small malfunction, such as a blown light bulb, will be fixed immediately (Guests might be interested to know that the "core" White House, was literally built by Ann and Brian brick by brick). Ann looks after the domestic side as well as administration, just as important as Brian's activities. A Holiday in the White House will introduce you to a part of England which has never featured much in the headlines. The Forest of Dean was for long known as a secret place "somewhere between England and Wales." It is an area with its own language, where a head is a "yudd", a friend is a "butt", and a badger is not only an animal which lives in a den but also a forester who keeps "ship" (sheep).
They are able to advise when is the best time to come and see the hundreds of acres of bluebells which carpet the forest in Spring or the best place to see the elusive deer population. They can tell you how certain men born in the forest can acquire the right to dig for coal and who can roam the forest to pick up kindling wood. If you need to roam further afield they will help you with your routes and suggest places of interest. Of course, you can always spend your leisure time enjoying the amazing panorama which can be viewed from the patio (which is 170 metres or 557 feet above sea level). The Cotswolds, the great River Severn meandering through the vale of Gloucester, and Gloucester itself, site of one of the many sieges of the Civil War, are all laid out before you. You can also view the phenomenal Severn Bore from here. As Ann and Brian will tell you, "guests come as strangers to the White House, but leave as friends." |
